How to make a safe and gradual transition to barefoot footwearUpdated a month ago
If you have never worn barefoot shoes before, it is important to transition to barefoot progressively. Your body needs time to adapt to a new support pattern, movement and muscular activation. But do not worry—it is simple and safe when done consciously.
Why transition gradually?
When walking barefoot, your feet work more: the intrinsic muscles are activated, the pressure distribution changes, and your gait pattern adjusts. This is beneficial, but if done too quickly, it can cause discomfort or strain.
Tips for a smooth transition:
- Use transition insoles. These help make the change more gradual.
- Start wearing barefoot shoes at specific times of the day, such as at home or for short walks.
- Pay attention to how your body responds. You may feel new sensations in the calves, the soles of the feet, or the Achilles tendon at first. This is normal.
- Increase usage time gradually. As you feel more comfortable, start wearing your KOOPS for longer or more demanding activities.
- Alternate with other shoes if needed. The goal is not to change everything overnight, but to progress consciously.
